EDI
Standardised, electronic data exchange from ordering through to invoice processing
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) facilitates a paperless and automatic transfer of order, order confirmation, and delivery note data right through to electronic invoicing and payment.
To make use of the advantages of EDI, some organisational requirements have to be met which you can find in “Details”. Studies by notable business consultants have found that EDI pays for itself after a short time.
EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) - You will reduce your costs, as it will no longer be necessary to transfer data manually and therefore personnel costs will be saved.
- You will minimise your turnaround times, as there won’t be any time delays.
- You will avoid errors, as there will be a smooth flow of data without interruptions in both directions.
What do you need to be able to run EDI?
To be able to run EDI normally you need your own inventory control or production planning system. This fulfils the most basic requirement. In addition to this, the data in your system must be prepared accordingly with the aid of an EDI convertor and transferred to the EDI partner using a suitable communication method.
What is an EDI convertor?
An EDI convertor is a programme for exporting and importing standard EDI compliant data. Such a convertor is already integrated into many inventory control systems. Before you consider purchasing an external programme, please check, if necessary with your IT department, if your system can already generate EDI data.
What is a Clearing Centre?
You can think of a Clearing Centre as a service provider which generates EDI data from special, proprietary file formats. A convertor is not required for this as the Clearing Centre carries out this task.
