RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
As a global leader in polymer processing, REHAU conducts its work in an environment that thrives on innovation and technology. Our decades of experience in materials, tools and processes make us a competent partner, able to deal with even the most complex product development cycles.
Our research and development department supports our three business areas -- Building Solutions, Automotive, and Industry -- in their efforts to continually optimise products and add value for their customers. The efficiency and capabilities of our products and systems are closely related to the potential of the materials themselves. Based on our wealth of knowledge and experience, we create new, carefully tailored, polymer-based formulas with the aim of expanding our existing product range and seeking solutions for new applications.
Not all economic, technological, and ecological requirements can be fulfilled by plastics alone, which is why combinations of materials are increasingly taking centre stage. We combine polymers with both metallic materials and renewable raw materials, such as wood, hemp, and jute, in order to expand, adapt, and optimise the range of available material properties. Along with new materials, innovative processes also play an important role in our company's success. They make it possible for us to provide solutions that would otherwise be too expensive or impractical using conventional processes. When we have elaborated the basic knowledge in a laboratory and acquired sufficient experience with the new process, we are ready to transfer our findings into the production environment. Turning ideas into products requires a modern and active project management system within the research and development environment. New ideas are generated, assessed, and transformed into products that are geared to market requirements and that provide clear customer benefits. To extract genuinely workable solutions from the pool of ideas, we gather a broad range of experts, give them clear definition regarding objectives and desired results, and pilot our solutions with potential customers. Forming networks is becoming an increasingly important part of the research and development process. Network partners typically include suppliers, customers, and external parties such as institutions, research facilities, and universities. REHAU has spent years establishing, maintaining, and expanding these relationships. The information we obtain and the experience we gain in this process are then incorporated into new and optimised products.
