REHAU AWADUKT THERMO

GROUND-AIR HEAT EXCHANGER SYSTEM

Project: Sutton Life Centre
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Sutton, Surrey
Requirement: To reduce the requirement for air conditioning
Solution: Two grids of REHAU AWADUKT Thermo pipework are being installed on the project by contractors GSE Civil Engineering in preference to a concrete earth tube system which was originally selected.
Project: The Lakes By YOO
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo system, REHAU Underfloor Heating, REHAU RAUGEO Polymer Pipework
City: Lechlade, Gloucestershire
Requirement: To provide the homes with a near zero carbon footprint
Solution: REHAU’s AWADUKT Thermo ground – air heat exchanger system is an integral part of the renewable energy solution developed by Greentec Systems for the prestigious The Lakes by Yoo second homes development near Lechlade in the Cotswolds. The Greentec System installed has a Danfoss heat pump at its heart, it produces hot water, heating and cooling by circulating fluid through 800m loops of REHAU’s RAUGEO PE100 polymer pipework laid at a depth of 7m on the bed of the lake. The lake offers an ideal thermal environment since water is an excellent thermal conductor.
Project: South Lanarkshire College
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System, REHAU RAUGEO Energy Probes, REHAU Underfloor Heating, REHAU EVERLOC, RAURAIN Rainwater Harvesting, REHAU PVC-U Windows & Doors
City: East Kilbride, Scotland
Requirement: To produce a Low Energy, Low Carbon House,
Solution: Polymer specialist REHAU has become a key partner in a new project taking place at South Lanarkshire College in Scotland to build an affordable low-energy, low-carbon house which will showcase the design and technologies required to meet future building standards. The house is being built to the Code for Sustainable Homes, Level 5 standard. This targets a 100% reduction in CO2 emissions over target emission rate and states that a Code 5 house should display ‘exemplary performance with high standards of energy and water efficiency’.
Project: Pears National Centre for Autism Educations
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Muswell Hill, London
Solution: The system, which provides a constant supply of fresh ventilation air either pre-warmed in winter or pre-cooled in summer, is predicted to deliver a minimum of 10% of the building’s energy requirement – equivalent to a carbon saving of 1056kg/year.
Project: Ray Park Visitors Centre
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Redbridge, London
Requirement: Project featured a number of Energy Saving Innovations
Solution: One of the most interesting features is the REHAU AWADUKT Thermo ground – air heat exchanger system which has been installed to provide pre-cooled and pre-warmed ventilation air. 150m of REHAU’s polypropylene pipework has been laid in a 30m long grid 1.5m below ground adjacent to the centre. It operates by drawing fresh external air through a tamper proof inlet and using the natural temperature of the earth to pre-warm or pre-cool the air before it is delivered via displacement floor grilles into the building at a flow rate of 2,700m³/h.
Project: Wembley Manor Primary School
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Brent, London
Requirement: The school was designed by architects Walters & Cohen to allow for natural lighting and ventilation wherever possible both to reduce energy costs and to create a comfortable environment for the pupils.
Solution: AWADUKT Thermo proved the ideal renewable energy solution since it uses the natural temperature of the earth to pre-warm or pre-cool ventilation air as it is drawn through a network of underground pipes before it enters a building, reducing both heating and cooling costs.
Project: Tesco Supermarket
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Oppeln, Poland
Requirement: Through optimised energy management, it is possible to reduce the energy requirement considerably at the newly built TESCO supermarket in Zdzieszowice compared to conventional supermarkets.
Solution: Through the use of the ground-air heat exchanger AWADUKT Thermo, the intake of fresh air is pre-heated by the ground in winter. To achieve the necessary target air temperature, this pre-conditioning of the outside air leads to a considerably reduced energy consumption.
Project: Queen Elizabeth School
System: REHAU AWADUKT Thermo System
City: Wimborne, Dorset
Requirement: The installation to provide a renewable source of controlled ventilation will take place shortly at the new Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne, Dorset, which is being built as part of the DfES Building Schools for the Future (BSF) One School Pathfinder programme.
Solution: Dorset County Council has secured additional funding for the school to become a Demonstration Project for Sustainable Schools and the AWADUKT Thermo system, which will deliver substantial energy savings on both heating and cooling, has been specified in line with that. Its performance will be data-logged by the school and the ongoing savings analysed into the future.
