The thermoplastic fender has both a functional and a design role. It is made from thermoplastic material utilising an injection molding process.
Benefits of a thermoplastic fender as compared to sheet metal include:
Weight savings
Corrosion prevention
Greater design flexibility
Greater resistance to minor damage
Significantly lower tool costs
The following types of material are typically employed:
TPO/EMPP
PC-Blends
PA-Blends
REHAU can supply the thermoplastic fender as a(n):
Unpainted conductive part (suitable for in-line or on-line painting)
Unpainted primer-coated conductive part (suitable for in-line or on-line painting)
Painted in-body-color matching the vehicle color
Structural or retaining parts may be fitted to the fender by means of adhesive bonding or welding (for uses such as mountings).
"Fender module" - (Expanding a fender to include the integration of items such as headlamps and water reservoirs before the module leaves the REHAU facility).
