REHAU has showcased its new SOLUS underfloor heating system at a self build project in Merthyr Tydfil. This underfloor heating system is specifically designed for the first floor of new properties.
Beacon Heights is a new house which has had REHAU underfloor heating installed throughout including the first floor in the bedrooms, bathrooms and landing area.
On the 130m² first floor, the pipework was fitted onto the underside of the floor from the room below. This is quicker, safer and more cost effective than conventional installation and the self build homeowner was impressed with both its speed and simplicity.
With support from REHAU’s Technical Support team, a series of channelled aluminium plates were fixed to the underside of the joist floor from the ceiling below. REHAU’s 12mm RAUTHERM PE-Xa pipework was then clipped within the C-shape channel and fed through holes drilled in the joists where necessary.
The aluminium of the plates conducts heat evenly across the floor adding to the comfort levels already offered by underfloor heating. The performance of the system is also further improved with a condensing boiler. REHAU quotes optimum performance at 55º C average flow temperature enabling the boiler to operate at over 90% efficiency.
Stephan Lang, REHAU’s Product Manager responsible for REHAU SOLUS, says: “Very often, house builders want to include underfloor heating throughout the whole of a property but the time and cost traditionally involved in fixing on the first floor means they compromise by using radiators there instead.
“The REHAU SOLUS system means they no longer have to compromise and, as we have demonstrated at Beacon Heights, the benefits of underfloor heating can be appreciated throughout the whole property.”
