REHAU AWADUKT THERMO GROUND - AIR HEAT EXCHANGER PROVES PERFECT PARTNER FOR HEAT RECOVERY UNIT

REHAU AWADUKT THERMO GROUND - AIR HEAT EXCHANGER PROVES PERFECT PARTNER FOR HEAT RECOVERY UNIT
ADM Systems, a REHAU Authorised Partner, has used the REHAU AWADUKT Thermo ground - air heat exchanger system to maximise the efficiency of a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery unit (MVHR) at a large, new build property in North Yorkshire.

The developers of the property Shaun Lincoln Builders wanted to provide a high standard of internal air quality in the house so specified a whole house ventilation and heat recovery system which would recover heat from stale, polluted air as it was extracted from toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms and use this to pre-heat incoming fresh air.

ADM Systems, based in Skipton, recommended that the REHAU AWADUKT Thermo system was used alongside the conventional heat recovery unit to improve its performance and maximise its efficiency.

The REHAU renewable energy system draws fresh air through a network of polypropylene pipes laid 1.5m underground. It takes advantage of the fact that the ground at that depth is a fairly constant 8-12ºC all year round and uses this to temper the incoming air, pre-warming it in winter by up to 9ºC and pre-cooling the air in summer by as much as 14ºC. The pipe incorporates an antimicrobial layer to prevent microbial growth on the inside of the pipes.

At the Yorkshire property, 60m of REHAU 250mm diameter pipework has been laid in a network underneath a paddock adjoining the garden and linked inside the property to the heat recovery unit. This has the effect of increasing the efficiency of the MVHR unit in the winter months and, via a bypass, ensuring that there is also a constant supply of pleasantly pre-cooled air coming into the building in the summer.

Chris Marriott, MD of ADM Systems, said: “In this type of project, the REHAU AWADUKT Thermo ground - air heat exchanger is the perfect partner for a MVHR unit - it works more efficiently and also offers a renewable cooling solution. For new build installations across the UK where there is space to install the pipework grid, I would always recommend that the two systems are installed together.”

ADM Systems describes itself as a ‘specialist in air management’ and is one of the first companies to join REHAU’s network of Authorised Partners in the renewable energy sector. These companies are fully trained by REHAU and are authorised to install REHAU renewable energy systems such as ground source probes and collectors and ground-air heat exchangers.
