‘Inspiration’ is the very appropriate title for a stunning, new 160 page design guide produced by edgeband manufacturer REHAU.
The guide seeks to encourage designers to see edgeband as much more than an extension of a surface and to consider some of the innovative and surprising opportunities which it can open up. It offers inspirational ideas for using edgeband as a decoration, feature or frame on furniture and worktops rather than simply a functional item for concealing cut board.
Using the extremely impressive results from a student competition held last year at the Hildesheim University for Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK), the guide is a visual feast for designers, architects and indeed clients.
It includes sections such as ‘Rockabilly’ with wide, loud and flashy designs, Neo Geo using abstract geometric decorations and Op Art drawing on the 60s art movement in black and white.
It also explores the contemporary colour palette being used in edgeband design, the textured and embossed finishes which can change surface structure and the accentuated edgebands which offer a new dimension in interior design. There are even new ideas for the future such as light-emiting edgeband to highlight design contours
As one of the world’s leading edgeband producers, REHAU is at the very forefront of both design and manufacturing developments. Its latest initiative is RAUDIGITAL which offers a universally digitalised process from design development right through to production. This will offer designers more opportunities for individualisation of their edgeband designs, smaller project-specific quantities and shorter lead times.
